Walking with Weakness: Back Story

April 26, 2018

Today, a devotional I wrote for a contest was published on the Proverbs 31 website. Winning that contest was another important step on my journey.

The contest was sponsored by the writing training group, COMPEL (https://compeltraining.com). After subscribing to the group for a year and a half, I was on the verge of canceling my membership. Not because I was unhappy with the group; it offers some amazing resources for writers. But making time to use these resources was a challenge for me. Paying for a resource I wasn’t using began to feel irresponsible. Kind of like paying for an unused gym membership.

But then…the contest was announced. The team at COMPEL promised that everyone who entered the contest would hear back from them. SO, I decided to enter and prayed God would reveal His will for my writing through the response I received.

The day I received the congratulatory email from Glynnis Whitwer, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. I reread that email SO many times to make sure it really said my entry was selected as one of the winners! And then, a sentence in the email stood out to me:

When your devotion runs, we’ll create a social media graphic to help promote the devotion. We’d love for you to promote this on your blog and social media outlets as well.

Ummm…blog?!? Could God have been more specific? I didn’t think so.

Winning the contest not only pushed me to create this blog, it also ignited my passion for pursuing my desire to write. Rather than canceling my membership, I am investing time to take advantage of all the resources available through the COMPEL group.

Here is the link to the devotional:

I will also replicate it here on my blog.

I don’t know where God will lead as I follow this turn on the road, but I am definitely enjoying the journey! Wherever you are in your journey, I pray the same for you!

Shirley!!! This devotional gets better everytime I read it!!! What an honor and privilege it is to be your friend and fellow sojourner on this wonderful walk of life. Thank you for being so real and for sharing that realness with us all. I also applaud your willing heart to follow the God prompts! I am so excited to see all the plans He has for you.
